About this place
Opening at 7:00 on weekday mornings, Cherbourg welcomes guests with the aroma of freshly brewed coffee and golden, heavily toasted bread. The mainstay morning Set A features thick-cut bread crisped on the exterior and chewy within, flanked by a fried egg, ham, salad, and the house blend coffee that has anchored the counter since opening day. Guests can also order the Royal Blend, crafted to replicate the coffee supplied to the Imperial Household Agency, for a deeper, more layered cup.
At midday, the kitchen switches to a satisfying lineup of retro kissaten staples cooked vigorously in the pan. The long-standing signature dish, Beef Yakiniku Don, is prepared with domestic beef sourced from Ningyocho's respected butcher Hiyama, tossed in a house-made sauce that plays rich beef flavors against the sweetness of tender onions. Served with a side salad and nameko mushroom miso soup, it makes a substantial lunch. Diners seeking noodles can choose old-school pan-fried pastas, such as Napolitan, made with noodles boiled and rested overnight to achieve a distinct chewy bite, or Sicilian Spaghetti, flavored with dry curry.
Found on the 2nd floor of a building in Nihonbashi Kakigaracho, Cherbourg operates exclusively on weekday mornings and afternoons, remaining closed on weekends and public holidays. House guidelines ask guests to refrain from using laptops, and payment is strictly cash only, so carrying small bills or coins is recommended. It is a venue designed less for lingering over work and more for an earnest, comforting meal delivered without delay.
